Many of you know that my deepest passion is missions and I feel that my life calling is to share the gospel and see others draw closer in their walk with Christ. Several of you also know that I tried to go to Lima, Peru earlier this summer on a mission trip. God made it obvious that I was not ...to go at that point in time, and although I did not know the reasons why, I was obedient. It is funny how He works things out so well and so much better than anything we could do. Long story short, one of my good friend’s moms is organizing a trip to the exact orphanage that we were planning to go to last summer. The orphanage, Hogar Sagrada Familia, is home to over 700 kids who would otherwise probably be living on the streets of Peru. Many of them have come from prostitution, abuse and homelessness. Recently, the Peruvian government made a deal with the orphanage and said if the orphanage would provide the children’s education through the orphanage school, the government would allow them to receive their high school diploma.
If the $30,000 school is finished by the end of January, (which it should be) the Peruvian government will pay 50% of the teachers’ salaries, giving the teachers a reason to stay, and hopefully providing the opportunity to hire more teachers. This school is so much better than the other options in Peru, and the kids are taught a trade such as sewing or wood shop in addition to academics.
I feel complete peace about pursuing this trip, and I know that in the natural world, it is absolutely and insanely crazy to raise $1,400.00 in a week and a few days, but I’m okay with that. If you want to be a part this, I invite you to participate. The $1,400.00 covers the cost of the transportation, and we are raising $30,000.00 to finish building. The $1,400.00 is due by the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and the actual dates for the trip are January 2-10, 2010. If you feel God leading you to give toward the construction of the school, you are welcome to give, up to the time we leave. It is one of the largest orphanages in Peru, and it grows daily, depending on the available space. I pray that you catch the vision for what God is doing in the southern hemisphere and I deeply covet your prayers that above all, God will give us the wisdom to share His words and that many will come to know Him. Please pray also against the attacks of the enemy, as he usually tries to thwart these types of things and formulate many attacks on all the individuals involved. Again, thank you so much for your prayers.
The mission trip will be through Southmont Baptist Church located in Denton, Texas (http://www.southmont.org/). If you would feel more comfortable sending money to the church, that is fine, but please make sure to put my name and “Peru mission trip” on it somewhere. I do not attend church here, so it is imperative that this information is on it. The best way would probably just be to send it to my mailing address at 6612 Duffield Dr., Dallas, Tx 75248.
Thank you so much.
Love,
Nancy
